Raising a Glass to the Island Life

Our Story

Inspired by old rum smuggling tales—whether under the dusky guise of nightfall or hidden in plain sight beneath the sunny skies off the island's coast—Catalina Rum Company pays tribute to the island’s storied past and the enduring connection between rum, the sea, and the spirit of fun and adventure that defines Catalina Island.

Catalina Island, which lies off the southern California coast, was said to offer rum-runners a haven for stashing goods to smuggle into the mainland. While the days of Prohibition are long gone, the laid-back island lifestyle and sense of adventure remains.

Rum-running History

Tourism has always been part of Catalina’s identity. we’ve been long standing local business residents serving fresh sustainable fish and handcrafted cocktails on the island and throughout southern california.

A Tourism Destination

Jim and Rick owners of Catalina Rum Company, Bluewater Grill and El Galleon Restaurants

Our deep connection to the island and love for the nautical lifestyle naturally led to a passion for boating and the loving enjoyment of “boat drinks,” inspiring the creation of the Catalina Island Rum Company. This venture pays tribute to the island’s storied past and the timeless bond between rum, the sea, and the spirit of fun and adventure that defines Catalina Island. We hope that enjoying this rum with friends will evoke memories of the “good times that brought so much pleasure,” as Jimmy Buffett sings in his famous song, “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.”
